What is a Hero?
- In my opinion, I think a hero is someone who takes responsibility and does what they don't necessarily need to do for others. Hero is someone who sacrifices him/herself for others.
Modern Example:
As a modern example, I think I can describe the alchemist who helped Santiago fulfill his goal in the book The Alchemist was a hero to the protagonist, Santiago. The alchemist had helped Santiago reach his life goal by guiding him in the right direction, and also saving his life couple of times in the desert. The alchemist didn't have to help the protagonist in reacing his goal, and he also didn't have to save him from the dangers from enemies, nature, and conflicts. However, the alchemist has chose to actually help him, and this is why I think he was a hero.
Do I think Luis Alejandro Velasco is a hero?
- I personally think he was a hero in quite a few ways. First, he had chosen to stay alive and save himself. This was shown in the chapters where at first Luis tried to just die at sea because all hope seemed to be lost. However, as he realized that he could actually go through this hard, harsh conflict, he didn't give up on his hope and made a firm decision to survive. This is shown in chapter 10. Later on, as he gets ashore, from about chapter 13~14, Luis was respected and treated like a hero for surviving the ten days of rafting. I think this was possible because it gave hope and inspiration to people to not treat their lives too poorly.
